About our Staff

Hello, my name is Kate and I am the Manager and Early Years Lead Practitioner at First Steps. I have held this post since 2005.

After leaving school I attended college and gained my NNEB certificate. On completion I worked in a residential setting in Bath with children who had complex physical and mental health needs.

In 1979 I enrolled at King's College Hospital, London, and qualified as a nurse. For many years I worked on the paediatric wards within Plymouth.

In 1987 I had a career break to raise my twins and became a full time mum. Prior to my present job I worked as a Teaching Assistant in several schools.

At the pre-school I am also the Child Protection Officer and the SENCO Advisor.

I really enjoy my job at the pre-school and I'm lucky to work with such dedicated staff.

My name is Pamela and I am the Deputy Manager. I have worked with children from 4-16 years in different aspects for approximately 40 years.

I am a NVQ3 Teaching Assistant having been employed in two Plymouth schools, where I also had the pleasure of organising textile and sewing after school clubs.

I am now enjoying my work here as an Early Years Practitioner: encouraging, teaching and instilling confidence in our children in preparation for their next steps at school.

I love getting the children involved with singing rhymes, old and new, and being very "hands on" with arts and crafts.

First Steps has many children of different nationalities and I enjoy the challenge of finding out about their language and culture.

First Steps is a happy place to be: friendly, loving and educating.

Hello my name is Claudia and I am originally from Romania. I am a proud British Citizen.

My first contact with First Steps was 2 years ago when my son started to attend the nursery.

After that I worked as a volunteer. A few months later I became an official part of the First Steps team.

I hold a Level 2 in Early Years and I am working towards my NVQ3. I also have Paediatric First Aid and a Level 2 certificate in Food Hygiene. This making me responsible for snack time.

I enjoy teaching children through role play and making up new and funny stories. I also enjoy singing and reading. Very passionate about cooking with the children.

My name is Josie and I am married with 2 grown up sons. I came from the Philippines 29 years ago and gained my British Citizenship. Britain is my home.

I joined First Steps as a volunteer and progressed to a member of the staff in 2007.

I have a NVQ 3 in Early Years Education. I thoroughly enjoy my work and being part of the team.

My name is Denise and I was born in Canada. I moved to England 20 years ago, my husband and I have 3 children.

I've been working with children from ages 2-11 years for over 20 years now and particularly enjoy teaching music, cookery and creative arts. I love glitter, glue and getting into a mess.

I have a NVQ 3 in Early Years Education and a Diploma in Children's Evangelism and Nurture.

I have been at First Steps since 2007 where I work part time and have had the privilege of seeing many children develop to their full potential in preparation for school.

I also work part time as the Under 5's Co-Ordinator within the Methodist Central Hall, which includes running 2 parent and toddler groups.
